Carmen Lorentz is this year’s Helen Holbrook award winner. Carmen pivoted to local community and economic development after being appointed by Governor Hassan as Director of the Division of Economic Development at the Department of Resources and Economic Development. During that time, Carmen saw housing as a big piece of the workforce puzzle, attracting her to her current position as the Executive Director of Lakes Region Community Developers, whose mission is to develop affordable housing throughout the Lakes Region.

Carmen is a valued community partner, raising her voice to advocate that everyone, regardless of their mental health needs, disability or income status, has the right to housing that supports their safety, dignity, and quality of life.

The Helen Holbrook Leadership and Service Award, given in memory of Helen Holbrook, is awarded to a member of the community who leads by example and gives of themselves to strengthen the cause of mental health in the Lakes Region. The award winner is chosen by the Lakes Region Mental Health Board of Directors.
